Week Four

AKA Research Paper Week! Aaaaaah!

Not really, but the 10 page research paper was pretty intense for all the resources I went through, stuff I decided to use, edits I made, and MLA citations that gave me some trouble.

However, since I chose to write over same-sex marriage, it had so much personal meaning to me to get these opinions and ideas across that it was all worth it to be able to see my ideas in print making them significant. I won't lie, the paper did drum up so emotions in me while reading the opponent's viewpoints (and I did cry once), but it was definitely a rewarding experience that I can use in the future for Rachel and I when we finally get married.

In addition to research paper, we had to keep up with discussions. There was a discussion forum this week about Gay Marriage, and it really was nice to see my classmates' opinions as I was writing my paper. The majority of them were in favor of same-sex marriage, and that helped me to see that what I was writing was not for nothing.

We also talked about writers and books this week which is one of my FAVORITE topics! So many good recommendations of things to read. I already checked out The Reader to read next week now that this class is over with.

My interior design class is still rolling though, and I am about to work on my color board due Tuesday. Having a few rubber cement issues, but as a first time user of the product, I feel pretty good about it and mistakes are expected.

Anyway. I better get going.

It's been an awesome class with such lively discussion. I'll miss reading everyone's views and interests.

Ciao, darlings!

Week Three

This week in my Advanced Composition class we focused on web pages and internet resources plus other moderated topic discussions.

Some of the topics discussed were the legalization of marijuana (I'm against, but know people are going to do it so I guess it should be restricted), funding public schools, favorite super heroes, cats versus dogs, changes to Oklahoma, and Facebook.

We also had to create our individual webpages that play into our team's overall theme for our team project. My group had a rough time deciding for a few days there, but we eventually decided on creating pages over our favorite and most used links. Here is a link to my webpage:

Lauren's Favorite Things

I'm rather proud of it if I do say so myself. And the Weebly interface is so user-friendly. I'll definitely use it from now on for my projects.

Anyway, I've had a very long week, and I am now going to do a little book therapy by visiting my favorite bookstore in OKC, Full Circle Books. If you don't know what it is, check out my webpage. ;)

Week Two

This week in class we talked about mainly consumerism and contemporary advertising. This is the theme that our essays were also over. I decided to write mine over anti-aging commercials. I had a harder time with this essay than I did with last weeks, but hopefully it will be a better critique rather than just a summary like I accidently did last week.

As for the moderated discussions, my main topic of the week was electronic readers. I just cannot get into the idea of owning all my books electronically. I'd much rather have a paper/hardback copy, and it seemed that most of the people who answered my discussion (which was about 8) agreed that they prefer the physical book to the electronic. Of course, the ones who prefer the electronic version may not have answered because of my obvious obsession with books. ;D

Other topics of interest discussed were divorce/child support, dreams, money equaling happiness, tattooes, television, nick-at-night, Bob Barker vs Drew Carey on the Price is Right (Bob Barker all the way), and many other interesting topics.

I'm definitely looking forward to just creating a webpage this week and focusing on my research paper. Two weeks and then this class is over. So fast, but so fun.

Until then..
Auf Wiedersehen.

Week One

Wow. What a long week.

This week during my Advanced Comp class we talked about logical fallacies, viewing habits, and a wide range of hot topics. This is a good class for discussion!

We also had to write an essay over a television show we used to watch when we were younger. I decided to write mine over the Golden Girls because it was one of my favorite shows when I was younger. I went out and bought seasons 1 and 2 at Target and spent most of the weekend watching them. It really helped me get ideas for my paper, but it also was a lot of fun. Those girls are hilarious.

I also picked my topic for my research paper -- same-sex marriage. I definitely think it will make for a very interesting paper, and also a good source of information for when Rachel and I want to get married. So this week I am going to start working on that.

Other than that, just trying to get through the next few weeks while my boss is gone.
Shall be interesting.

Until next week.

Start of class

Hey guys.

This is is my new blog for my online Advanced Composition class I am taking during the month of June 2011.

We will be spending the next four weeks writing, talking about logical fallacies, viewing habits, consumerism, advertising, gender, web pages, favorite internet resources, writing for the web, plus doing three essays and research paper over similar topics.

I'll keep you posted on the discussions going on on our boards, and any other developments that occur.

This should be a fun, hectic, and rewarding four weeks.
